Rant about Work

##What annoys me about working at Coles? Or, I think you were right Ali ;-)

Rant Warning! You can’t say I didn’t warn you, and I even tagged it rant! Oh, and you stupid LJ readers, go read it on my blog or via RSS!

Seriously, if they didn’t pay me better than KFC, I’d quit. Sure, the work isn’t to bad, and the pay is good, but they are crap.
Supposedly I was on the roster to work this arvo.
*Firstly, what Roster?* Oh, you mean that piece of paper they keep at the service desk? Seriously, the roster needs to be somewhere near the timekeeper, or staff room. And if it is, why didn’t they show me it during my training or induction?
*Secondly, why didn’t I know I was working today?* Could it have something to do with the fact I didn’t actually read the roster my self? Why not? Well cause after my second training shift, the manager read me my shifts off the roster, she told me Monday, Saturday and Sunday! So the fact that She told me shifts up until the end of this pay week, I assumed that was all I had. Seems she forgot to tell me I also had a shift on Friday! Or maybe she can’t read the roster her self?No offence meant, I know you can read the roster, well I hope you can, it’s not that hard!
Next, *do we get pay slips?* Sure you’ve told us we get paid straight into our bank accounts, and the pay week is Monday to Sunday, so from that I can assume it’s weekly pay, but what about pay slips? Do we get them? Do we have to go somewhere to pick them up?
*And how about asking for time off?* I might be a casual, but I’m still entitled to request time off. But how do I do this? OK, you do treat me like a part timer, giving me a roster and all, and it seems lots of places are now treating people like part timers, but hiring us as casuals. KFC finally seems to have changed, they treat us like casual part timers, giving us a roster, and calling us in minutes after a shift has started asking us to come in nowOK, so they only really do this to me, cause it’s usually 8:30 in the morning, and Kyle has called in sick, and they need someone now!, but hire us as part timers. The most annoying thing about this for me, is we need a minimum of 9 hours a week to be part time, and I don’t usually make it, so what do they do? They give me “Rostered Time Off”, which means I get paid for the few hours I worked, at part time rates, and supposedly I did get rostered >9 hrs, just 4 hrs of it was time off!Yes, this is cheating me, and they will be putting me back to casual very soon, or feel the wrath of the union! Anyway, back to time off. At least at KFC there was this book we could write in for time off (it was more of a diary), and we could even put our availability into that book to make it even easier to not be rostered on when we don’t want to be! And when you start working there, we show you the roster, and the book! How simple is that?
*Oh, and don’t forget, I don’t work Sunday’s!* KFC has been pretty good in this sense, I usually am only rostered on weekdays, weekends I don’t work, and it’s been like that for awhile now. OK, they did stuff it up when Lisa went on Holidays, and put me on Saturdays, but that was a minor mistake due to Lisa being away.Lisa usually makes the rosters But I specifically told Coles at the interviews, I was not available Sunday’s! I said I could work Saturday’s, cause I wanted the job, and was willing to sacrifice Saturday’s, but not Sunday’s! They assured me I wouldn’t have to work Sunday’s cause they weren’t open! But what do they do? During this jolly season of extended trading hours so that we are open on a Sunday, they roster me on!

Bah. That’s my rant over for now. All I can really do is pray I get this job for next year, finally, full time work, which will hopefully be sensible compared to these stupid company’s! Hear me now, “Your A BIG company, the least you can do is ensure your workers enjoy work somewhat!”

Lastly, while I’m in a rant mood. I need to get out of this house, out of Perth!
